Abstract This article presents a qualitative study of media discourses around fake news, examining 288 news articles from two national elections in Denmark 2019. It explores how construct as security threat and journalists articulate their own role relation to this threat. The draws on discourse theory the concept logics critically map particular meaning ascriptions subject positions come dominate over others, finding five undergirding discourses: (1) logic anticipation; (2) exteriorisation; (3) technologisation; (4) securitisation; (5) pre-legitimation. concludes that is constructed an ‘ultimate other’ Danish discourses, potentially contributing blind spots both public perception political solutions. resonates with previous studies other geo-political contexts, calling for further cross-national research.
